Open sourcing over 200 million protein constructions to assist researchers clear up numerous issues
Large knowledge in biology results in discoveries that may profit humankind. That’s the core perception at EMBL’s European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), and what its scientists have confirmed to be true ever since its founding on the Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton, UK, in 1994.
A part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, the institute is an intergovernmental analysis group funded by over 20 member states. Its knowledge span genomics, proteins, small molecules, knowledge fashions and way more.
As a champion of open knowledge within the life sciences, EMBL-EBI was a pure associate for DeepMind to host the AlphaFold Protein Structure Database, offering free entry to protein construction predictions to scientists globally.
After launching in 2021 with round 365,000 construction predictions, the database now incorporates greater than 200m predictions, masking almost all cataloged proteins identified to science and rising our understanding of biology by orders of magnitude.
